XX Marks the Spot

While tempted to slam my hand down on the political third rail following the recent presidential debates, I think I’ll resist. After all, our well-informed readers are more than capable of forming opinions on their own, as I’m reminded daily in my interactions with them.But whatever you think about the impending presidential crescendo, Hillary Clinton’s historic candidacy is a great reason to shine some light on the stellar women in CLM’s ranks.

In this issue, we hear from four successful professionals with XX chromosomes on the unique qualities they bring to the industry (see Between the Lines column). While the responses from these two vice presidents and two partners are as insightful as they are varied, they share a common thread and something many of us already know: Women tend to be much better communicators than men.

This strand of communication and its importance is picked up again in Taylor Smith’s interview with Carl Warren & Co.’s Jeanette Hernandez (see In the C-Suite). I was so impressed with her varied background, and it was great to see her degree in interpersonal and organizational communication on full display. This is a woman who, as chief operations and claims officer, is at the top of our industry’s food chain saying, “Getting the desired end result is directly related to how well you communicate with [a claimant or stakeholder.]”

You can keep the politics, I’ll be cheering on this message of thoughtful, effective communication
championed by these leaders.
